A recent BBC report shows the Iraqi Golden Division making their first foothold inside of the city of Mosul. The fighting is about to get nuts.
As the fighting for Mosul continues to intensify, it appears as if the Iraq Army has finally gained their first foothold in the city. The elite Iraqi counter-terrorism task force, The Golden Division, made their entry into the eastern most part of the city and immediately took control of the state TV building in Kukjali from Daesh forces in the first few hours.
It is reported that there are currently 50,000 Iraqi soldiers, Peshmerga fighters, Sunni tribesman, and Shia militia fighting to gain control of Mosul. In contrast to this, it is also being reported that they believe only 3,000 to 5,000 Daesh fighters are present defending the city from the attacking Iraqi forces.
While the two-week-old battle continues to intensify in the streets of Mosul, one thing is for certain. There is no way the remaining Daesh fighters will be able to escape out of the back-end of Mosul, nor will they try. They are in entrenched in Mosul like a lice infestation, and the Iraqi forces are sweeping in to clear them out.
